Side Hustler Spotlight: Vicky Moon, Utility Warehouse
Let me introduce you to Vicky Moon, wife, mum of two girls and side hustler. Vicky loves to save money, but also get the best value for her money, so when she found out she could get both by becoming a Utility Warehouse customer she was in. Then she found out she could earn an income from simply sharing with other people what they could save she was hooked. Vicky has been a Utility Warehouse customer and partner for eight years. Over that time she’s made some amazing friends through her business and her goal, which is something I’m sure many of you reading this will share, is to get to the point where she can ditch her day job to concentrate fully on helping people save on their costly outgoings.
One of the things Vicky loves about her side hustle is seeing the look on the faces of her prospective customers when they see how much money they could save; something we all need to do at the moment with the cost-of-living crisis.
So let’s look at how Vicky manages her side hustle alongside her day job and other responsibilities. She told me that she works mornings four days a week and she has worked part time for the last thirteen years. So when it comes to finding time for her side hustle it’s usually in the evenings and in the ‘nooks and crannies' of her day. A typical week for Vicky would be spending her Monday to Thursday mornings at work. Then Monday evenings she sets up her social content. Tuesday evenings she sometimes attends virtual team trainings/meetings which are held once a month. Vicky’s side hustle involves meeting with potential customers and she tends to schedule all her appointments in the evenings or on a Friday, when she’s not in work. You don’t have to be local to sign up to Utility Warehouse with Vicky as she offers both in person and virtual appointments.
I asked Vicky for her tips on how to find time for a side hustle. She told me that her main one is to reduce distractions if you work from home. She does her chores, such as hanging the washing out and loading the dishwasher before she sits down at her desk to work on her side hustle. What she struggles with is getting to bed at a decent time once she gets engrossed in something.
Vicky’s story is a great example of how to take a service you are passionate about and share it with others, making some money along the way. Here are my four key takeaways from Vicky’s story:
If you want to start a side hustle, but are struggling to think of what to do, take a look at the products and services you use that you could sign up to sell to others. As well as Utility Warehouse there’s also things like being a Tropic Ambassador.
If time really is tight and you feel there’s no way to squeeze in a side hustle alongside your day job have you ever considered working part time? Maybe you could review your budget and see if this is possible for you. You may not lose as much money as you think.
Having a weekly routine for regular tasks can keep you on track. Vicky has weekly slots for creating her social media content and making appointments with potential customers. How could you create a routine for your side hustle so the essential weekly tasks become automatic?
Fit your household chores around your side hustle however works best for you. Vicky gets them out of the way before sitting down at her desk. I prefer to use them to break up periods of time working at my computer.
